Washington: President Donald Trump delivered a speech to Congress on Tuesday, declaring that under his leadership, "America is back." Highlighting his administration’s achievements, Trump stated that his presidency had ushered in a new "golden era" for the country.
"Six weeks ago, I stood here and announced the beginning of America's golden era," Trump said. "Since that moment, we have taken swift and tireless action to move our nation toward the most prosperous and successful era in history."
The president claimed that his administration had accomplished more in its first 48 days than most governments achieve in four or even eight years. He added that, for the first time in years, a majority of Americans believe the country is heading in the right direction.
"In just the past six weeks, I have signed nearly 100 executive orders and taken over 400 executive actions to restore common sense, safety, optimism, and prosperity across our nation," Trump declared.
However, several of Trump's executive orders have faced legal challenges in the courts.
During his speech, some Democratic lawmakers disrupted his remarks, prompting the Speaker of the House to remove Representative Al Green of Texas from the chamber.
Trump also addressed the national emergency declared at the U.S.-Mexico border, claiming it had been instrumental in reducing illegal immigration.
"Since taking office, our administration has implemented the strongest border control measures in American history," Trump said. "Illegal crossings have dropped to historic lows. The media and our Democratic colleagues said we needed new laws to secure the border, but all we needed was a new president."
On foreign policy, Trump discussed the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza and the war in Ukraine. He reiterated his commitment to securing the release of hostages taken by Hamas and vowed to bring an end to the war in Ukraine.
"I am working tirelessly to end the brutal war in Ukraine," he said. "Millions of Ukrainians and Russians have been killed or wounded in this unnecessary conflict, with no clear resolution in sight. The United States has sent hundreds of billions of dollars to support Ukraine’s defense, while Europe continues to spend more on Russian gas and oil than on its own security. Sadly, under Biden, the U.S. has allocated more money to Ukraine than all of Europe combined."
